As we come to the final month of the year, most of us will be putting our plans together for Christmas, and maybe thinking about what is on the horizon for 2022. Perhaps some of us are also re-visiting our thoughts of moving home, something that for whatever reason we have been putting off until the New Year.

Neil Drejer, Co-owner and Director of Debbie Fortune Estate agents says…….The past 18 months have seen our investment in bricks and mortar prove to be our most fruitful, with steady house price growth, a change in our work/life balance, and many of us taking advantage of spending more time at home to make some much needed home improvements. After a bumper 11 months so far, we now find ourselves in a marketplace which is bereft of stock and yet still highly populated with hundreds of eager, proceedable buyers!

It begs the question……. Why wait until the Spring if you’re thinking of selling ?…….. Well here are some reasons why perhaps you shouldn’t!

One thing that is inevitable, is that in the New Year there will be more stock coming to the market….. thus creating increased competition, interest rates look set to rise….. therefore making borrowing money more expensive, and it’s probably true to say that the weather in early Spring is often colder, wetter, and even more wintery than our average December….. therefore not exactly creating the perfect viewing conditions.

So we think that now is the perfect time to sell your home, whether it be fully marketed or discretely. Discrete marketing your home is a tactic that has proved incredibly successful this year and brought about many successful sales. There are many, many buyers still out there, and why wouldn’t you want to put yourself in the best possible position for when all the other houses start coming to the market next year for you to buy? Every year Rightmove tell us that Boxing Day and Christmas Day are the busiest days for traffic to their website, an incredible 21 Million views on boxing day in 2020 and a mammoth 10 Million on Christmas day 2020 itself!

Selling your house in December doesn’t mean you can’t put those Christmas decorations up, and it certainly doesn’t mean you will have to move out before the end of the year!
