Property Description
Named after the SS Cufic salvaged by the White Star Shipping Line in 1901 and built using the £700 awarded to Captain Arthur Edmund Lewis (Master of the SS City Of Kansas) for its rescue and salvage, Cufic House is a 1903 built, completely one off detached house of singular charm and character offering just about the best views you will find in Cheddar. The current owners have been in situ for 9 years and in that period have undertaken an array of improvement works. Even before this time however, the house had been extended substantially to create the wonderfully light and airy accommodation you see today whilst retaining its unique character. This is arranged over two floors.
On the ground floor there are three good sized reception rooms including a study/snug, a dining room with a wood burner, and a sitting room. A contemporary kitchen/breakfast room and downstairs bathroom along with a large sun room with arched and skylight windows that extends around two sides of Cufic House, acting as a stunning viewing platform. Upstairs there are three sizeable double bedrooms, a recently fitted family bathroom and en suite, numerous storage wardrobes and cupboards and access to an absolutely stunning 'ship's deck' style balcony terrace, the perfect spot for a gin and tonic of an evening watching the sun set over Cheddar. The property is warmed by gas central heating and double glazing where stated and has been decorated neutrally throughout, providing a real 'move in and unpack' blank canvas for the right buyer.
Outside the property can be found at the end of a long private shared lane with vehicular access from the Gorge and further pedestrian access via Tuttors Hill. This lane opens up into a large gravelled parking area where you will find outbuildings in the shape of a large double garage with mezzanine storage above and an attached workshop. To the front of the property and extending around the side is a large decked terrace area which once again benefits from those stunning views. These really cannot be overstated if we're discussing them, breath-taking and panoramic as they are and taking in both the Gorge, the reservoir, Quantocks, and beyond. Gardens have been very thoughtfully landscaped with terraced lawned area and tensioned 'sail' covered barbecue area to one side. To the other side is a larger lawned area with pond and waterfall.
The position is elevated and private with good access to everything that Cheddar offers. For families looking for proximity to the quality schools and wide ranging amenities. It is fantastically convenient, yet there is also good access to transport routes for the commute and with the Gorge just down the road and beautiful countryside close by for walking, there really aren't too many downsides to the position. Cufic House is one of those properties that make you feel like you are on holiday all the time, a real one off accommodation in a 'one off' spot offering some of the best views we have ever seen. Luxury, character and versatility, with a sizeable accommodation, beautiful gardens, outbuildings and a huge amount of further potential for a buyer with vision. Don't take our word for it however, arrange a viewing without delay, preferably on a beautiful and clear sunny day, when the stunning vista can be fully appreciated.

We have noticed ...
Once in a while as an estate agent one's breath is taken away at a property with a view so stunning, that it is hard to get anything done! Cufic House is one such property, set high at the end of a tucked away lane and offering spacious accommodation with further potential, this one off house is sure to impress. Built in the early 1900s and with a nautical theme which stretches throughout, the property also has impressive gardens, a versatile outbuilding, and a large decked terrace and balcony. That living space has character and space in spades and real versatility... It really is utterly unique! For a buyer with vision, there really aren't too many downsides in our view.
